Eddie Murphy says his Golden Globes joke about Will Smith’s infamous slap on the Oscars shouldn’t be actually “one thing that you’d even name about” regardless of making headlines the world over.

On January 10, the 61-year-old was honored with the Cecil B DeMille award on the Golden Globes. Whereas accepting his award, the “You Folks” star ended his speech by sharing three items of recommendation he claimed was essential to his illustrious profession: “Pay your taxes, thoughts your corporation and preserve Will Smith’s spouse’s identify out of your f—king mouth.”
Murphy, in fact, was referencing the second when Smith infamously slapped presenter Chris Rock in the course of the televised Oscars ceremony final 12 months. And after returning to his seat yelled on the comic to maintain his spouse’s identify “out your f–king mouth.”

Shortly after Will’s altercation with Chris, he took to Instagram to apologize for the incident. In a prolonged assertion, Will referred to as violence “toxic and harmful” and referred to as his actions “unacceptable and inexcusable.” He went on to clarify that listening to a joke about Jada, who suffers from alopecia, had been an excessive amount of for him to bear and he “reacted emotionally.”
“I want to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I used to be out of line and I used to be fallacious. I’m embarrassed and my actions weren’t indicative of the person I need to be. There isn’t any place for violence in a world of affection and kindness,” Will wrote.

He went on to apologize to the Academy, producers and viewers of the present in addition to his “King Richard” household. Smith, who gained the award for Finest Actor quickly after slapping Rock in the course of the ceremony, finally resigned from the Academy of Movement Image Arts and Sciences.
